Twitter Nation
I have over the months posted pictures and little snippets on Twitter. The easily accessed Twitter has taken over the blog posting. Guilty.
But with such convenience I am just able to write anything within the 140 characters limitation about the yummy food that I have tasted! The delicious home made stuff.. So what's there not to like about Twitter? :)
If there are some people out there who is reading my blog for inspiration and ideas on what to cook or make at the next free time, why not follow me on twitter? @awesomejo
I am sure you'll be dully entertained too.
Next post, I promise more pictures of food. For now, follow me on twitter!

In Loving Memory of Tom O'Regan

He's now gone from the face of earth and hopefully even much happier at wherever he is. Tom is very much missed and I have still not come to terms that you are no longer just 5 minutes away from me.
May your soul rest in peace and music.
Loving you always.

Its July and I have a Tiramisu to share
The months of April, May and June went past at lighting speed.
What happened? We are now into the 3rd quarter of the year. I must say I did not do a good job at keeping my blog updated (guilty).
I have only a tiramisu to share. (During those months, repetition of chocolate cupcakes and brownies were abundant)
Sharing with you a photo of the quick tiramisu. It is made with cream cheese instead of the usual mascaropone cheese and egg whites. There are now many recipes online that uses cream cheese
Here's the end product.
NB: I done a non-alcoholic version and it does not taste as nice as the one with alcohol.

Home Made Fresh Pasta
But making them fresh over the choice of dried store bought ones isn't something anyone would want to lay their hands on.
Honestly, pasta is darn easy to make but I suppose because of the huge quantity produced the option of using the dried pasta emerge as the winner.
For every 100gm of flour, use 1 egg (60gm). I used 600gm of Double 00 flour (or you can choose all-purpose flour). A tiny pinch of salt just to make everything better.
The well in the flour with 6 eggs
So having carefully using the best and most efficient mixer in the world - my hands. Bind the eggs and flour together as you would making bread! The body heat and weight translate to the dough. Making it smooth and soft - honest truth.
After having set the dough aside to rest - approximately 30 minutes or so. Roll the dough flat to the desired thickness and then make them into either lingunie or fettecuine - choice is yours!
I made mine into fettecuine! Eager to test and taste the texture of the pasta, I made a small serving. Using bottled pasta tomato sauce and some dried herbs, topped with cheese.
Cooking time for fresh pasta is way much shorter than dried ones. Slightly over 5 minutes in salted water. And then dress the salad with your favourite sauce. Dinner is served. :)

White Fungus And Papaya Dessert
This dessert or sweet soup nourishes the lungs and also for the ladies beautifying benefits. :)
This isomething that is so simple and ingredients are easily available too.
All you need is 1/2 a ripen papaya, 2 to 3 pieces of dried white fungus (soaked and all impurities removed and cut into bite sizes), rock sugar to taste, a teaspoon of bitter apricot kernels and a teaspoon of sweet apricot kernels, together with 1L of water.
Just pour everything into a pot and simmer on low heat for an hour and serve hot/warm or cold. :) What's even better!? If you have a slow cooker, simply pour all ingredients in, put it on automatic cook mode. Cook it over night and wake up to a bowl of nourishing goodness!

Din Tai Fung N Desserts
Savouring their signature Xiao Long Baos !!! Mad Love it !! Also had the Hot & Spicy Soup. Well pictures below speaks more !! Drool baby drool!!

I did not take a photo of the Noodles as I fhungry and just ate them.
After that superb lunch, I met up with a friend and had dessert at Hot Tomato!!! Mine was the Caramelised Banana served with a scoop of ice-cream WHICH they have forgotten to serve it together. So it is not in the photo!! Check it out!
The banana was grilled/pan cooked till soft and sweet then drizzled with burnt sugar! It so yummy! I'm drooling again! Just look at the photo!

My last stop for the day was MOF at Raffles City!! Its my first time at this eatery! And as I had a HUGE lunch followed by delish dessert. I had only room for 1 more dessert!
The dessert that I ordered was some Red Bean with Rice Balls. I felt that the red beans were too sweet for my liking. Though the rice balls are of chewy consistency that I like. 2 versions were available. Cold with almond flakes or with soft serve ice cream! Apparently, the same one is also available hot but not sure if they have it with ice cream though.

Dining At Charcoal by Shatec on 4 Feb 2010
I must say, I am impressed with the food presentation and also the quality of the food. For the price that we paid for the dinner, it is something very attractive especially in such economy situation. Pocket friendly place to go if you want to try the place out. One thing to note though, as all of them are students learning the trade of F&B, please do give them a little extra patience.
They are only trying their best to serve you with a smile.
Check out Charcoal by Shatec - Located at 100 High Street, The Treasury Building. Contact Number: 63382798.
Below are the photos for the evening. It was a Modern Fusion Menu. All the below food cost S$25nett!! WORTH THE MONEY!!!

I hope the photos has made you a tiny bit more hungry and apologies for the crap photos. Took them with my BB as I forgot my camera!! :(
Caprese Salad And Beef Lasange!
And this is a quick and easy way to make a Caprese Salad to satisfy my madness for Cheese!
I usually make the Pesto dressing as its way simple to make. I do not even use a blender to bind the ingredients as I feel that there is just too little ingredients to blend.
A bunch of fresh basil a couple cloves of garlic, salt and pepper to taste and last but not least, olive oil to combine everything together. The picture below shows my effort ;)
Its for my starter! And for the main course.......

I made Beef Lasagne! Yummy too. Some post ago, I made this again for the longest time. The BF is lovin' it and I have made it again and freeze it for him to have over the week or so.
This time round, I made extra meat sauce to go with it.

Best Night of 2010 - by far
After that little session, I headed to meet the boyfriend. Upon arrival, both lifts at the apartment isn't working for some stupid reasons! I got agitated as there were people waiting for the lift too!
If you have known me before, the boyfriend has said that he would not buy flowers for me as he sees it as a waste of money. Why? They die after awhile. Sadly, I love flowers (just not sunflowers). So upon hearing him say that, I was like that's it - I must have met the ultimately wrong boyfriend. BUT Christmas came and I got a very lovely bracelet from him. (More Brownie Points).Yesterday, he made beef guolash - his family recipe. Unfortunately a little slip of hand made it super duper spicy and not really suitable for my consumption. Luckily, he had some ingredients to help make it better. Tomatoes, potatos, onions and milk did the trick. We manage to have dinner after all.
My favourite part of the evening - Clarke Quay. This was the first time (and hopefully not the last time) the boyfriend and I went out for some drinks and booty shaking! Though he was a little grumpy because he did not get to sleep in the afternoon (for whatever reasons I forgot). We passed through Le Noir, Crazy Elephant, China One, Azzurca and lastly at Yellow Jello!
I had a blast at China One - first time there!! Band was good. Some decent looking boys too! The boyfriend kinda played bartender for the night. Parking himself there and watching me from afar while I scare people with my killer dance moves!! LOL.. to be frank. I have no idea what happened but people just moved away from me. :(
*sigh* flowers, dinner and a night out in town, so perfect! Its such a wonderful evening! I mad love it!
My first to go out with a boyfriend to clubs, just the two of us. My first time to have someone taller than I am, dancing with me to cheesy Jason Mraz - I'm Yours. BUT at least I had someone to dance with! (Even more Brownie Points!!)
If only you can see how widely I'm grinning now. I'm a very happy girl.

Let's see what can I whip up this weekend and I shall post some photos! In the meantime, TGIF!!!
Chill people.

Talk to The Hand
I was alarmed to such reactions from people in Singapore. I could not comprehend this behaviour. How hard is it telling someone that you are not interested WITH a smile?
Example Number 1:
Example Number 2:
Example Number 3 (SUPER classic):
You see, over the past few weeks working on the streets with the Team has exposed me even more to the people in Singapore. :) I'm not saying that I'm a snoob. But at least I have the basic manners/courtesy to tell the other party that I am not interested and always say Thank You.
Sarcastic remark or any form of verbal abuse is not appreciated (Trust me, everyone out there is doing a job and is a child of a person. He or She deserves the respect of every human being on Planet Earth!)
I am still hoping that one day, Singaporeans will learn to be charitable. Forget about TV performances, its everyday donations to the less fortunate that's making an impact to their lifes!!
I leave you with this: It's not what you can or cannot But It's what you want or not.

Lust and Love
Lusting for someone is easy. Lust can also be easily satisfied. Lust is something without any commitment attached. I suppose that's where affairs starts. Human beings are made as such that responsibility is the last thing they would want to have. As this paragraph ends, it also shows that lust is short lived.
Now, loving someone. I flunk this department with flying colours. When I love someone, I give him my all, 200% if not and never asking anything in return. :) I must be the stupidest person living to be doing such a thing. As said, love is blind and in contrary, how can there be love at first sight? Ponder on that!
I love the idea of being in a match make marriage. For I do not believe that a person should fall in love and then get married. Cynical you might say but think about this for a second, in any motivational talk you have ever attended don't they always tell you this: Picture your goal and work towards it?
I feel that in an arranged marriage, it is the same thing. You get to your goal first and then work it out! In India, where fixed marriage is a common thing and guess what? They have the lowest divorce rate in the world! Tell me now, how did it work?? Because you know you're in the marriage for life, regardless what happens you have to work it out. THAT'S how everything in the world should work! Looking for solutions and not pushing the blame to everyone around you. Its not a tai-chi demostration.
Loving someone isn't easy but with communication and compromising with each other. Things will definitely work out. A person's limitation to everything in life is only so much. No two thumbs are alike. So what I can do for the love of my life, isn't something that the next person in line would do at all.
Like is Important. ;)If you don't like the person a wee bit. There's no possibility that it can even progress to anything more than aquaintance. :) I can love more than one person but I will only be willing to devote my time/effort to one who deserves it best.
I have to like you even to be friends with you. :) I may be an arsehole at times but I guarantee you, I am like the craziest yet sane person at the same time. If that makes any cow sense! :)
You lust for me then love me and wants me to like you!! I'm shameless!

Sites I love
The first one that I read daily because it is filled with some most unimaginable things that actually happen to someone around the world.
It seems unrealistic at times but then again, who knows if it did happen at all. I leave it to you to decide. So here it is: FML
So the second one that I read religiously every weekend was introduced to me by a friend sometime July in 2009 when I was down with flu and stucked home all week.
It was a site for people to post their secrets or stuff that they are not sure who to tell it to but would have to somehow let it out.
Some information posted on the site were inspiring while others were a little heart wrenching. This idea was such a massive hit that books containing these secrets are actually published into books.
Then there's another that I really liked reading its the Susan Miller Astrology Site. A monthly forecast for all the Star Signs. Well you may think that it might not be true or I shouldn't be so superstitious about stuff like that. BUT hey, I didn't or wasn't so into it UNTIL when something that actually happened to me exactly how she wrote in her prediction. Ever since then, I have been reading her prediction of my Star Sign with a pinch of salt.
Time flies, we are now in the mid of January!! How scary is that. I hope everyone has been keeping with their resolution!!

Beef Lasagne and A Movie Review

The beef lasagne before its baked... Look at all the sinful cheese spread with love!!
And after having it baked in the oven for 30 minutes at 180 degree celius... this is how it turned out!

Verdict - Yummilicious!! Home made Lasagne always taste Oh-so-Good!
Movie Review - Invictus

My colleague rang me up and asked if I wanted to join them for a movie before we head down to work. Thinking that it would be a relaxed day, I agreed.
Morgan Freeman plays the character of Nelson Mandela - President of South Africa, while Matt Damon plays Francois Pienaar - Captain of the South African Rugby Team. Both the characters are strong and expressions and accent were impressive!
I loved Freeman's character. It was as though Freeman is Mandela!! Kudos to Clint Eastwood for an excellent piece of work!
Matt Damon has done well too on the accent of the South African! I suppose its not hard if you put your mind to perfecting the role you are paid tens of thousands for is it?
Uniting a country through sport was one way that Mandela done in the '95 Rugby World Cup. The movie showcase the preservence of Mandela and also how a great leader should be.
This movie explained to me that to be a good leader, not only leading by example is enough. You have to walk the talk and prove that nothing is impossible if you set your heart and mind to it.
There was a poem written by William Ernest Henley titled Invictus. The words to the poem were written beautifully that I have to share it with you.
So here it is:
Out of the night that covers me
Black as the pit from pole to pole
I thank the gods for what may be
For my unconquerable soul
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced or cried aloud
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody but unbowed
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade
And yet the menance of they years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid
It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishment the scroll
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul.
A beautiful poem with such strong inspirations. I especially felt with this: I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.
It is you who can take control of what you want in life. No one can tell you what are the right choices to make. If you have already set a goal - work towards it. Negative thoughts and toxic poison of "they say" will not only hinder your journey towards your goal BUT may even derail you from the tracks of achieving your destination.
I now feel like a wise old sage!! LOL!! But the movie did set me thinking and I am going to watch it again. This time I'm going to watch it with a pen and notebook! There are some words and quotes in the movie that I feel it worth taken note of.
I strongly encourage you go to watch this movie this weekend and get inspired. You will (hopefully) be all charged up for the week ahead of you!!

Computer Tummy

I posted this on my Facebook - Friends suggested that Computer Tummy could actually mean that someone is carrying a tummy the size of a computer!! One even said, beer belly resembles the description.
Oh well, whatever you might think it could or might be, I hope you smiled a little when you saw the picture.

Spreading the Word!
A notice was plastered to the wall of the HDB void deck in my neighbourhood. I found it innovative and hilarious at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I felt that the person was doing her part to inform the residents to be careful of their shoes.
You may think it might not mean anything, just imagine if one day you walk out of the door of your most comfy pair of shoes has been nicked! Won't you be upset too? May not be an expensive pair but comfy shoes for ladies are hard to come by. There's a saying beauty comes with a price - that's the pair of sexy high heels that kills your feet by the end of the day! =)
Here's the poster stucked to the wall with heaps of masking tape and an ACTUAL shoe !! Don't you think it is quite unbelievable!?
Thankfully, there wasn't any fine to posting bills on the wall of the HBD void deck. Well, its a job well done to have her plastered the shoe there as evidence!
NB: Maybe I should also have posted this on STOMP!

Fund Raising for Singapore Cancer Society
Through this programme, I have learnt that Singaporeans are still generous in such bad economy situation. Reaching out to save cancer striken people especially of low income families is really heart warming.
Who would have thought that in Singapore alone, 13 people die from cancer every freaking day? That's like 1 death on an average of 2 hours. Alarming number isn't it?
|Hence, public education is very important. Through having volunteers and fund raisers sent out to streets or located venues to help raise awareness and raise funds to help the needy patients is not an easy task. Armed with just a smile and a sincere heart to help these group of people, any person who stops for them is a chance for the cancer patients to recover and live life.
So people, if you see any of the kind souls out there raising funds for Singapore Cancer Society. Please stop and give them a chance to share the information and it would of course be appreciated if you are able to lend a helping hand for these cancer striken people.
I know there are kind souls out there!

Photo Editing
So I have not really done much to any photos that I have taken. Until most recently, a friend of mine has done her photos up so crazily pretty with the edited photos.. I had to ask her where she got the programme or software from. ( Initially I wanted just to have watermark on the photos).
I have put them together side by side for comparison.

As for this picture, I did not do much to it. A focal B/W could do such artistic change!! I *hearts* photo editing!!!
My New Year Resolution #2 - To edit photos (minimal) before I post them on the blog!
New Year Resolution #1 - To reduce my salt intake

Christmas Present
So the boyfriend came back from Germany. Checked flight arrival to be at 1630hrs at Terminal 2. When I arrived at the airport at 1605hrs, I thought I have time don't I. Looked at the Arrival Schedules - flight landed at 1547hrs. Super FML.

As how the BF translated it, this is called a beggers braclet. You buy the braclet and then add on the charms for different occasion. (Each charm cost on an average of 24 EUROS!!)

I like the braclet though its not something I would wear it often. I find that it gets into the way when you type on the keyboard half the time. =)
Still love it because it was bought with thought and there a heart shape charm - so girly! LOL.
Thank you for the present.
